For the first time in Australia, Anglicare Victoria and OzChild are introducing a new kind of foster care program that needs carers ready for a new kind of thinking.

TFCO is an internationally proven behaviour modification program that provides intensive support to the child, carer and birth family within a six to nine month period and has a 70% success rate in settling children back into a stable family environment.

With over 30 years demonstrated success in the US, UK and New Zealand and scientifically rated by international child welfare research bodies in its successful outcomes, the highly structured model offers comprehensive training and guidance before and during the program. The program also supports the child and foster carer with 24/7 support with school and counselling specialists and a skills coach.

WHAT IS TFCO?

The TFCO Foster Care Program is an internationally proven model to improve behaviours in children with serious behavioural/emotional difficulties.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROGRAM GO FOR?

The program is an intensive six to nine months long

WHAT AGE ARE THE CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM?

The program is aimed at supporting children between the ages of 7-17 years old.

WHAT TYPE OF SUPPORT WILL I GET IN THIS PROGRAM?

You will receive 24/7 support from a team of highly qualified specialists including a Schools Specialist, Child Therapist and a Skills Coach so you feel 100% ready to support the child.

Steps to becoming a new TFCO foster carer

We will arrange a time with you to visit you at home and give you more information about fostering and answer any questions you and your family may have.

Send through your details to start your journey to become a foster carer.

We are required to conduct background checks for all Foster Carers including reference checks, medical checks and a safety check of your home. We also require a Working With Children Check and a Criminal Record Check.

You and your family (and people residing with you) will be part of an assessment process. We need to find out:
• Why you and your family are keen to be a foster family
• What your skills are
• Your coping and support mechanisms
• The type of support you will require
• The age and needs of the children that would suit your family and experiences
• Your ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children
• Your ability to keep children safe from harm
You are encouraged to ask lots of questions about foster caring throughout the assessment. The assessment interviews will take place in your home and are conducted over several sessions. Children and other adults residing in your home will also be interviewed.

All adults in your home are required to participate in 2-5 days of foster carer training to give you a better understanding of the foster carer role and to equip you with some of the skills you will need to provide quality care.

Upon completion of the paperwork, checks, assessment and training, a thorough report is created and will contact you with the outcome.

Where does TFCO operate?

The program requires foster carers to be living in the Bayside Peninsula and Southern Metro Melbourne areas including Bayside, Frankston, Glen Eira, Kingston, Mornington Peninsula, Port Philip, Stonnington, Cardinia, Casey and Great Dandenong.
